The Sennelager Training Area near Paderborn in North Rhine-Westphalia is a training area with a long history and has been used intensively by the British Army in Germany for decades. The site provides room for manoeuvres, live-fire practice and armoured training, and is a familiar base for British and allied units on the European mainland.
In terms of landscape, Sennelager is characterised by heath, sandy soil and open plains, interspersed with stretches of mixed forest — relatively flat terrain with good sight lines.
