The Otterburn Training Area in the English county of Northumberland is one of the largest training areas of the British Army. In this rugged, sparsely populated upland, British units conduct large-scale artillery and infantry exercises, with the sheer extent of the area providing room for long-range live fire.
The landscape is heavy and wet: rolling hill country with peat bog and open moorland that offers little natural cover, making movement and logistics a challenge.
