The Ādaži Military Base is Latvia's main training area, located a short distance from the capital Riga. The base is the home of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence battlegroup and is used by both the Latvian Army and allied units. This makes Ādaži a key location for collective defence in the Baltic region.
The terrain is characterised by dense coniferous forest, marshy zones and sandy soil in a predominantly flat landscape. That combination of forest and boggy ground places its own demands on mobility and navigation. For exchanging positions between the various NATO units, MGRS is the standard. On this page you'll find the MGRS zone, terrain features and an interactive map and 3D view.
