Starting navigation mode
Open a route in MilMap and tap the navigation button (arrow icon) at the bottom of the screen. MilMap requests access to your location — grant this for real-time navigation. The app switches to navigation view with the next waypoint centred on screen.
Direction and heading
The navigation arrow points to the next waypoint, corrected for your current walking direction. The heading is displayed in degrees (0–360°), where 0° and 360° = North, 90° = East, 180° = South, 270° = West. If you deviate from course, the arrow rotates accordingly.
Distance and time
The current distance to the next waypoint is continuously updated based on your GPS position. Based on your current speed (calculated from the last GPS points), MilMap estimates the arrival time at each subsequent waypoint.
Automatic arrival detection
When you reach a set distance from the waypoint (default 25 metres, adjustable), MilMap automatically detects arrival and moves on to the next point. A sound signal plays and the app briefly displays the name of the reached point.
Background navigation
On mobile, MilMap can continue navigating in the background while you use other apps. Notifications inform you of approaching waypoints. This saves battery compared to keeping the screen on constantly.
Navigation statistics
After completing a route, MilMap shows navigation statistics: actual walking time versus planned walking time, actual distance walked, average speed, and the percentage of waypoints automatically detected. This helps you refine future planning.
