Why a PDF route book?
Digital devices can fail: battery dead, screen broken, water damage. A printed route book is always available, requires no electricity, and can be handed to team members without access to the app. Moreover, a clear document with all waypoints, times, and coordinates is essential for briefings.
What does the PDF route book contain?
The MilMap PDF export format contains:
- Route specification page with name, date, total distance, and walking time
- Route table in landscape format with per waypoint: number, name, MGRS coordinate, leg distance, cumulative distance, leg time, and cumulative time
- Elevation per waypoint (where available)
- Route statistics: total ascent and descent in metres
- Column for field notes next to each waypoint
Configuring the export
Open the route in MilMap → click 'Export' → choose 'PDF Route Book'. Select the paper size (A4 or Letter) and orientation (landscape for the route table, portrait for the summary). Choose whether to include SALUTE reports as an appendix.
Bulk export (Team plan)
With the Team plan you can export multiple routes at once as a single combined PDF document. Useful for operations where multiple teams are deployed simultaneously, each with their own route as a chapter in the document.
Printing tips
Print on sturdy paper (80 g or heavier) for use in wet conditions. Laminate the front page for map identification. Use a map holder or waterproof zip-lock bag for storage in the field.
