Garmin and MilMap
Garmin makes GPS devices widely used by military personnel, hikers, mountaineers, and rescue services. The rugged devices work offline and are accurate in remote areas. By linking Garmin routes to MilMap you combine the reliability of Garmin with the operational features of MilMap.
Exporting via Garmin Connect
Synchronise your Garmin device with the Garmin Connect app or website. Go to 'Activities' or 'Courses' (routes). Open the desired route/activity → click the gear icon → 'Export to GPX'. Save the file on your computer.
Exporting via USB
Connect your Garmin via USB to your computer. The device appears as an external drive. Navigate to the folder Garmin/GPX/ or Garmin/Routes/. Copy the desired .gpx files to your computer.
Importing into MilMap
In MilMap → 'Import' → select the GPX file. MilMap parses the file and shows a preview with the number of waypoints and the total distance. Confirm the import and the route appears on your map with automatic MGRS coordinates and recalculated walking times.
FIT files
Garmin also stores activity data in .FIT format. This is a binary format that contains more data (heart rate, cadence, power) but has no direct import option in MilMap. Convert FIT to GPX with tools such as GPSBabel or the Garmin Connect website before importing.
Supported Garmin models
MilMap imports GPX files from all Garmin models that support GPX export, including: GPSMAP series (64, 67, 276Cx), inReach series, Foretrex, Montana, Oregon, and eTrex.
