Fort Cavazos, known as Fort Hood until 2023, lies in central Texas and is one of the largest armored training areas of the US Army. It hosts the III Armored Corps, with expansive areas for maneuvering and training mechanized units.
The landscape consists of open prairie, weathered limestone hills and fields of low scrubland, ideal for large-scale exercises with tanks and combat vehicles. To record positions, sectors and targets unambiguously across this sweeping terrain, MGRS is the military standard, even where landmarks are scarce. On this page you'll find the MGRS zone, terrain features and an interactive map and 3D view.
