Arnhemse Heide

Updated: August 10, 2026

The Arnhemse Heide lies north of Arnhem, between Schaarsbergen and Deelen airbase, and is the backyard training ground of 11 Airmobile Brigade at the Oranje Barracks. The rolling heathland is used for infantry exercises, helicopter operations and drops — the proximity of Deelen makes air-ground cooperation daily practice here.

With elevations between 45 and 85 metres the terrain is noticeably more profiled than most Dutch heathlands, and the historic weight is tangible: this is the landscape of Market Garden. For landing zones and rally points, MGRS is the standard here as well. On this page you can see the MGRS zone, terrain features and an interactive map with 3D view of the area.

On the Arnhemse Heide much revolves around air-ground coordination. With MilMap you mark landing and drop zones as HLZ waypoints in MGRS and share them with both the ground unit and the aircrew. The elevation profile helps choose approach routes across the rolling terrain.
