Map sharing in an operational context

Good map coordination is crucial for team operations. Everyone must work from the same maps, with the same waypoints and the same routes. MilMap offers several ways to share and keep maps in sync, from simple export files to live shared views.

Exporting a map for team use

The fastest way to share a map is as a GPX file. Export the route and all waypoints, and send this via Signal, email, or USB. Team members import the GPX file into their own MilMap installation. This works entirely offline and requires no account on the recipient's end.

Creating share links

For teams where not everyone actively uses MilMap, a share link is convenient. Create a read-only link for your map. The recipient can view the map in a browser without logging in. This works well for briefings where commanders or coordinators want to view the route on their laptop.

Team maps in the Pro version

With MilMap Pro, multiple users can work on the same map. Team members can add waypoints, adjust routes, and place comments. Changes are synchronised as soon as an internet connection is available. This is ideal for planning processes where multiple people provide input.

Version control tips

With teamwork, version control is important. Use a clear naming convention: "EXERCISE-COBRA-v3-final". Save intermediate versions as a separate map so you can return to a previous plan. Always communicate which version is current, so team members do not work with outdated routes.

Offline synchronisation

In areas without a connection, each device operates independently. After the operation or exercise, you synchronise all changes back to the team map. Conflicts — for example two team members who moved the same waypoint — are flagged so you can choose the definitive version yourself.
