The Budel Military Training Area lies in south-east North Brabant, in the municipality of Cranendonck near the Nassau-Dietz Barracks. The area — part of the Weerter- and Budeler hills — consists of dry heath, pine forest, fens and stretches of drift sand on the border with Limburg and Belgium. The Royal Netherlands Army uses the terrain for infantry, signals and reconnaissance exercises.
The landscape is largely flat with only slight elevation differences, so participants rely heavily on map and coordinates for orientation rather than prominent contour lines.
